“The Mission of Hand In Hand Ministries is to empower individuals, ethnic and minority families, disadvantaged, and at risk populations to become healthier physically, mentally, emotionally and spiritually, contributing actively and productively to the community.”

Hand In Hand Multicultural Center plays a vital role in the Springfield community and Southwest Missouri by focusing on the needs of ethnic children, adults, and families, assisting them in the acculturation and acclimation to the community and the area.

Education: Locally, the Hand in Hand Multicultural Center has great success collaborating and partnering with community organizations, churches, and clubs to provide programs and projects in English and Spanish which enhance the quality of living in the area; present educational programs for children and parents; and bring awareness of the area resources and facilities to an at risk population.

Diversity Awareness: Professional workshops and programs are available to professionals, educators, faith based groups, and other special interest organizations to provide awareness, understanding, and education on diversity issues, cultural differences, acculturation issues, and barriers of our community and society for at risk populations. Dr. Judith R. González is recognized and has been a featured presenter not only in Missouri but throughout the country and in Mexico, Puerto Rico, Cuba, and other locations for professional conferences and training. Julie Humphrey is a retired educator and also a professional presenter on diversity issues.

3 V's: Hand In Hand Multicultural Center launched 3V's For Life (Vitality, Vim and Vigor For Life) November 1, 2005. This initiative promotes nutrition education, resources for healthy lifestyles, activity groups, and professional counseling for health. All of the activities target groups focusing on nutritional health risks--minorities, low-income, ethnic groups, under served, and other at-risk populations. Motivational and incentive activities are aimed at family and individual interests and daily routines to promote more active lifestyles in harmony with established routines and interests.

3 V's For Life Healthy and Active Communities Initiative is a partnership with the Missouri Foundation for Health, Forest Institute of Professional Psychology, Springfield-Greene County Health Department, University of Missouri Extension, RecFin of Nixa, and Greene County Ethnic Ministries.

3 V's For Life

Provide education, motivation, and opportunities to encourage children, youth, and adult minorities to develop a healthier lifestyle.

Spanish Classes

Available upon request and tailored to your needs. Taught by skilled native Spanish speaking instructor.

Study Buddies

The ABCD Study Buddies After School Program provides individual and small group academic tutoring for children K-12 with a special focus on the needs of children growing in a culture with English as a second language.

Professional Counseling

Individual, Marital & Family Therapy, Psychological Evaluations, and Testing. Analysis's are handled in a sensitive, confidential and professional manner that respects the privacy and value of families, couples, and individuals.

Professional Workshops

Topics of Diversity, Health Care Disparities In Hispanics, Acculturation and Ethnicity, Working With Diversity, and other topics upon request by our experienced professionals.

Translation & Interpreting Services

Available for documents in Spanish, Vietnamese, Korean, and many other languages. Trained interpreters and translators provide services to schools, doctor's offices and businesses as well as translation of documents into various languages.

Publications

The "Guia Hispana" is published in Spanish to provide a community living guide which includes, health, safety, and community living information .

Parenting Classes

Features disciplinary skills, recognition of appropriate behavior, and warning signs of unhealthy relationships .

HOPE (Homemakers Organizing Parenting Effectiveness)

The HOPE Program will focus on reaching children from 0 - 12 years of age and their families who are at or below the poverty level in Southwest Missouri. Our goal is to teach healthy development and successful lives through educational programs and hands-on activities.

Missions

NOW ORGANIZING MISSION TEAM 2009!

A mission trip is scheduled annually every summer for Mexico. This year's mission trip will feature projects in Guadalajara, Mexico. Come and join this cultural experience. Spanish skills ARE NOT required. Translators will be available.

Recent mission experiences include projects in the city of Leon, Mexico and travel to a primitive Purepecha Indian village.   The 3-5 hour drive from the city to the mountains gives team members the opportunity to learn about various areas of the country and insight into the variety of needs in the villages and communities.

The primary focus of the team's work is joining Hand In Hand  with the Mexican team and the Christian Medical Society of Mexico to set up medical clinics, assist in building and construction projects, work with children's projects and minister to the needs of the adults in small villages as well as to specific areas and neighborhoods in the city. 

Leon, Mexico has been a major focus for the past 5 years.   The team has assisted in building a medical clinic/church building as well as several projects out in the primitive villages of the mountainous area near Leon, working with the Purepecha Indians.

3 V's for Life

Health Parties

Health Educators host home health parties to educate participants in good food choices, healthful cooking tips, and basic good nutrition, and how to incorporate these principles into your current daily activity.

F.I.T. Teams

FIT (fitness in training)Team Coaches will develop groups with similar interests and meet regularly for physical activity. It can be anything at all! Jogging, playing baseball, or just walking the dogs together!

F.I.T. Centers

Hosted in area businesses, these centers will consist of creative and culturally sensitive materials related to nutrition, physical activity, local recreational areas, and places that promote activity and wellness. Materials will be provided in English and Spanish.

Professional Counseling

Individually adapted health behavior modification available. Support groups organized on a regular basis to assure availability and convenience.

Community-Wide Campaigns

Information broadcasts through TV, radio, newspapers, public notices, billboards, and mailings. "3V's" hosts an annual celebration to recognize achievements, attendance, participation, and consistency.

F.I.T. Mobile

The F.I.T. Mobile will house games, exercise and activity equipment to be used by the F.I.T. teams at health parties and special community events.
